SQA PE HIGHER

Course Description:

The Higher PE course provides candidates with the opportunities to develop and enhance their movement and performance skills.  They develop knowledge and understanding and apply this to the analysis and evaluation of performance in physical education. Candidates develop their thinking skills through planning, problem solving and analysing performances.

Course Assessment

Component 1: Question Paper Exam. This exam is 2 and ½ hours long, marked out of 50 and contributes to 50% of their overall award. It is broken down in to sections.

Section 1: 32 marks

Covers all four factors (mental, emotional, social and physical) Students will be expected to have knowledge of the following aspects: • Factors impacting on performance • Data collection • Approaches used to develop performance • Method for monitoring and evaluating

Section 2: 6-10 marks

Personal development plans on the two different factors which must be over a minimum of three sessions

Section 3: 8-12 marks

Scenario could come in the form of a table, text, image or graph. Scenario will look for students to solve a performance problem or challenge.

 

Component 2: Performance. This contributes to 50% of the overall course award and is marked out of 30 (60 total). Pupils select their two chosen activities that they wish to be assessed in. The performance is broken down in to sections:

Control and fluency 7
Effective decision making 7
Using and applying well established composition, tactics and roles safely and effectively 7
Extent to which rules and regulations are followed and etiquette is displayed 1
Extent to which emotions are controlled on the day of the performance 1
