Pupils take centre stage with AI powered performances in a dazzling digital Eurovision-inspired showcase
Artificial Intelligence meets Eurovision in an unforgettable night of music, innovation and youthful creativity as Dunoon Grammar School, Argyll and Bute invites the world to tune in to the first-ever Neurovision Song Contest – a pupil-led spectacular showcasing the power of AI.
Broadcast live on Thursday, 15 May 2025 at 6:00 PM via the school’s Twitch channel @dunoondubhs, the Neurovision Song Contest is the culmination of an exciting unit on Artificial Intelligence. S1 learners at the Argyll & Bute school have been exploring many aspects of AI: how to recognise it, how it’s shaping our world and how to use it and build it creatively and responsibly.
As part of their project, learners used Generative AI to create original songs inspired by the glitz, glamour and spirit of Eurovision – the final of which takes place on Saturday, 17 May 2025. Now, the Dunoon learners are ready to share their tunes—and what they’ve learned about AI – live with their local community – and the world.
The name of the event – “Neurovision” – cleverly combines neural networks—a core concept in AI—with the beloved spectacle of Eurovision. Neurovision reflects both the technical and creative nature of the project.
“Teaching AI isn’t just about preparing our pupils for the jobs of the future – it’s about helping them become thoughtful digital citizens today,” said Paul Gallanagh, Principal Teacher of Business & Computing at Dunoon Grammar. “By exploring both the creative possibilities and ethical responsibilities of AI, our learners are discovering how to harness technology safely and with purpose. AI is already impacting our daily lives and it is vital that we lean into this technology and teach our young people to recognise, use and build AI solutions responsibly”.
The livestreamed event will feature performances of pupil created songs, interactive voting for the public’s favourite track and insights by pupils on the risks, rewards, and realities of AI.
For S1 pupils like the Larissa the project has opened new doors:
“It’s been amazing learning about AI in school. I am now better at identifying AI generated content online like fake news and deepfakes. AI generated content is only going to get better and better – so the lines between real and fake is going to become even more blurred. It is important we can tell the difference.”
Scarlett, also in S1 at Dunoon Grammar, agrees:
“It’s not just fun – we’re learning about something that’s going to be a big part of our future and the fact we get to do it through something creative like music makes it so much more exciting! It has also made me aware of how AI is impacting jobs. There are real issues with the creative industries at the moment.”

NOTES TO EDITORS
• Artificial Intelligence: the ability of a computer or machine to think and learn like a human. Forbes Magazine has labelled it ‘mankind’s greatest invention’ and Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, believes it is more important than fire or electricity.
• Opportunities of AI: PWC – one of the largest accounting firms in the world – reports that the AI industry could be worth $15.7 trillion, 15% of the global GDP, by 2030. That’s more than the current output of China and India combined! PWC believe AI could boost GDP for local economies that embrace it by 26% in this same period.
• Eurovision Song Contest: One of the world’s largest international song competitions, celebrating musical diversity and cross-cultural collaboration. Neurovision channels this spirit—with a futuristic twist.
• AI in Education: As AI becomes more integrated into daily life, schools like Dunoon Grammar are pioneering ways to teach pupils how to navigate and shape this rapidly evolving technology with awareness, responsibility and confidence. S1 learners in Dunoon Grammar will now code their own AI chatbot to help with active recall revision – their very own personal tutor.
• Dunoon Grammar School: Known for its innovative approach to digital learning, Dunoon Grammar has received multiple accolades for integrating real world skills and emerging tech into its curriculum – including the World’s Best Schools Prize, the JA European Award and the only school to present three times at World Education Week.
