Thank you for taking the time to read our S2 Options information and I hope that you find it useful as this is a very important time in the education of your child. Session 2019-2020 sees Dunoon Grammar School continuing to offer a broad and general education in S3, whilst allowing for some personalisation and choice within the specific curricular areas to best prepare learners for National Qualification in S4.
This section provides descriptors from each of the specific courses available in S3 and you will find these listed in alphabetical order. You will also be able to identify the specific curricular area that the course comes from as learners should select at least one course from each curricular area. The table below lists the courses under their curricular area:
Expressive Arts (EA) | Languages (Modern) (ML) | Sciences (Sc) | Social Subjects (SS) | Technologies (Tech) |
Art Drama Music | French Gaidhlig (Speakers) German | Biology Chemistry Physics | Geography History Modern Studies Religious and | Administration Business Studies Computing Science Design and Graphic Hospitality Practical Craft Skills |
S3 learners will study nine specific courses with additional periods of Physical Education (x2), Religious and Moral Education (x1) and Personal and Social Education (x1). From the nine courses studied in S3, learners are expected to take seven of these forward into National Qualification in S4.
On the S2-S3 Options menu you will find a copy of the option form that will be used to complete the options process. This will be explained in full at the Parents Information Evening on 16th February 2016 and during the options interview with your child’s Head of House. Should you require more immediate clarification on any matter please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
Kind regards
Miss S Stewart (S2/S3 Year Head)
